Aluminum composite panels – also referred to as aluminum plastic panels – are multi-layer composite materials made of two pre-painted aluminum sheets bonded to a non-aluminum core. Their mechanical strength, light weight, and remarkable environmental resistance is what make them the preferred choice for cladding both the interior and exterior of a building.
Plus, these panels are also widely used in signage. There are several reasons behind this. One of them is the printable surface which allows for easy customization. Another one is the wide variety of available core materials – they provide options for fireproofing and other specific requirements.
Aluminium composite panels possess an exceptional ratio of strength to weight. On comparison with aluminium and steel panels for obtaining the same rigidity (E.g.), aluminium composite panels have a weight per unit volume up to 60% and 30% of aluminium and steel panels respectively.
ACPs display an impressive 180° peel strength. Even after sustained use, there is never a spontaneous detachment between the aluminium panel and the plastic core material.
Their remarkable stability in color and luster can be seen even after prolonged outdoor use. Under such conditions there is usually no detachment of the coating and the lifespan of ACPs exceeds twenty years.
The surface coating of ACPs is designed to be highly adhesion, and resistible to the effects of corrosive materials, such as weak acids (10%H2S04), strong bases (10%NaOH), and saline mist. The resilience of the PVDF fluorocarbon polymer coating is particularly noted.
ACPs exhibit exceptional performances which meet the National Category A for external wall decorations, thus fulfilling the requirement for wind pressure.
At the core layer, harmless polyethylene is surrounded by two aluminium sheets which are not combustible. ACPs adhere not only to the National Fire Prevention Standards but also to other safety requirements for general building materials.
